Ingredients

Original recipe (1X) yields 4 servings

  • 1 (16 ounce) package bulk pork sausage

  • 1 medium onion, coarsely chopped

  • 2 stalks celery, trimmed and sliced

  • 1 (6.9 ounce) package chicken-flavored rice and vermicelli mix

  • 1 tablespoon butter, or to taste

  • 2 ½ cups water

Directions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir sausage in the hot skillet until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes. Add onion and celery; cook until vegetables have softened, about 5 minutes. Remove from the pan; set aside and keep warm.

  2. Brown rice and vermicelli mix in the sausage drippings, adding butter if needed. Slowly add water and seasoning package; bring to a boil. Cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer until rice is tender, 15 to 20 minutes. Just before rice is finished, add sausage-vegetable mixture. Stir well and let sit for 5 minutes before serving.
