Breakfast Casserole with Sausage

I have had this breakfast casserole with sausage every Christmas for as long as I remember. It has been in our family cookbook for years and years. It's amazing.

Ingredients

  • cooking spray

  • 1 ½ pounds bulk Italian sausage

  • 3 cups milk

  • 1 ½ cups shredded Cheddar cheese

  • 9 large eggs, beaten

  • 3 slices bread, cubed

  • 1 ½ teaspoons dry mustard

  • 1 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Spray a 9x13-inch casserole with cooking spray.

  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir sausage in the hot skillet until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes. Transfer to the prepared casserole.

  3. Mix milk, Cheddar cheese, eggs, bread cubes, dry mustard, and salt together in a large bowl. Pour over the sausage. Cover and place in the refrigerator, 8 hours to overnight.

  4. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

  5. Bake casserole, uncovered, until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean, about 1 hour.
