Turnip Green Soup with Ham and Sausage

Being from the south, I love turnip greens and this soup is a "comforting" way to enjoy them and so easy to make. My husband, being from the north, didn't think that he would like it, but on cold winter days, asks for me to make it.

Ingredients

  • 2 (14.5 ounce) cans chicken broth

  • 2 (10 ounce) packages Turnip greens and turnips, frozen, unprepared

  • 1 (15 ounce) can navy beans, rinsed and drained

  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can pinto beans with jalapeno peppers

  • ½ pound smoked sausage, sliced

  • 1 (8 ounce) package chopped ham

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • ground black pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Mix chicken broth, turnip greens, navy beans, pinto beans, sausage, ham, and onion together in a stockpot; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until the greens are tender, 30 to 40 minutes. Season with black pepper.
