Ingredients

Original recipe (1X) yields 12 servings

  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil, or as needed

  • 1 medium onion, cut into chunks

  • 1 medium green bell pepper, cut into large chunks

  • 1 large egg

  • ½ teaspoon milk

  • 1 cup barbecue sauce

  • ½ cup tomato salsa

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce

  • 1 ¾ pounds ground sirloin

  • 1 cup plain bread crumbs

  • 2 tablespoons grill seasoning (such as McCormick® Grill Mates® Montreal Steak Seasoning)

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C). Brush a 12-cup muffin tin with vegetable oil.

  2. Combine onion and bell pepper in a food processor. Pulse until finely chopped.

  3. Whisk egg and milk together in a small bowl. Mix barbecue sauce, salsa, and Worcestershire sauce together in a separate bowl.

  4. Combine ground sirloin, onion-pepper mixture, bread crumbs, and steak seasoning in a large bowl. Add egg mixture and 1/2 of the barbecue mixture. Mix with your hands until well combined.

  5. Use an ice cream scoop to fill the prepared muffin cups with the meat mixture. Top each mini loaf with a spoonful of the remaining barbecue mixture.

  6. Bake in the preheated oven until no longer pink in the center, about 20 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 160 degrees F (70 degrees C).

Cook's Note:

You can use ground turkey instead of ground sirloin, red bell pepper instead of green, ground-up oats instead of bread crumbs, ketchup instead of tomato salsa, and extra-virgin olive oil instead of vegetable oil.
