Even More Frozen Margaritas

What says summer more than a fruity frozen marg? While I love our classic margarita recipe, when I'm craving something a bit more fruit-forward (and icy cold), I turn to these frozen strawberry margaritas. While these are a staple summer drink to cool off with during those too-hot days, these margaritas go beyond one season: they work best with frozen strawberries, so you can make them year-round! Get to blending—happy hour starts now.
• Strawberries: Fresh strawberries are of course unbeatable, but I opted to use frozen for a few reasons. One: Fresh, in-season strawberries can be difficult to find sometimes. Using frozen makes it easy to make these margs whenever you please. Two: The frozen strawberries contribute to the icy, frozen texture—you can use fewer ice cubes which can water down the drink.
• Tequila: I use silver tequila in this recipe; feel free to use your fave brand, or check out our list of the best tequilas we’ve tasted. More of a mezcal fan? Turn our mezcal margarita into this fruity blended variety.
• Triple Sec: I used simple & reliable triple sec in these margaritas, but if you have a preferred Cointreau you’d like to use, feel free to swap it out.
• Lime Juice: Use freshly squeezed here—I promise it makes a difference!
• Honey: A bit of honey adds some welcome sweetness to these margs. If you prefer them less sweet, use less and adjust to taste. Alternatively, you can use simple syrup here instead.
• Basil: I love adding fresh basil for some sweet herby flavor, but other fresh herbs like mint or even cilantro can kick up the flavor of this sunny cocktail.
These margaritas couldn't be simpler to create. First, combine all of your margarita ingredients in the blender and blend until smooth. I like to add a few basil leaves for freshness, but that's completely optional. If you find your mix isn't as slushy as you'd like, add a few more frozen strawberries or ice cubes until you reach your desired texture.
Once your margaritas are ready, you can move on to creating your rim. Place salt on a shallow plate, then rub the rims of your glasses with a lime wedge, and dip into the salt to coat. Feel free to get creative when creating your rim: use kosher salt, coarse sea salt, or even Tajín!
Once both your glasses and margaritas are ready to go, pour and serve! Just don't forget that lime wedge garnish.
