Packed with flaxseeds and yogurt, this protein-filled smoothie is not only delicious, but will keep you full all morning long. Unlike other smoothies that require a million different ingredients, you only need 5 ingredients (plus ice) and 5 minutes to create this simple breakfast. How to make a banana smoothie:
Trust us, it really couldn’t be easier. All you need are 5 ingredients (+ ice) and a blender. Toss 2 small bananas (or 1 large) in a blender along with ice, unsweetened almond milk, plain yogurt, flaxseeds, and honey, then blend until smooth. Here are some tips to make your smoothie perfect:
— For a sweet and creamy smoothie, use decently ripe bananas (but not too mushy!). The riper the banana, the sweeter your smoothie. To meal prep smoothies for the whole week, cut up your ripe bananas and freeze.
— If your smoothie isn’t blending correctly, keep adding liquid until it’s your perfect consistency.
— No flaxseeds? No problem—we love the added texture and nutrition they give, but they're not necessary for this smoothie.
— If you don't have almond milk, feel free to sub it out for your favorite plant-based milk (we love coconut milk for its tropical vibes), or whole milk.
— You can swap out the yogurt for another thickener like Greek yogurt, peanut butter, or almond butter. If you don't have a thickener, you can skip it, but you'll have a thinner smoothie as a result.
Variations.
Like any smoothie, this banana version is completely customizable. If you’re craving some added protein, feel free to add in some protein powder or peanut butter, like we do in our peanut butter banana smoothie. Need a fruity twist? Throw in your fave frozen fruit (berries, mango, pineapple) or a squeeze of lemon juice to brighten this smoothie up. We all know that smoothies are a perfect way to get in your greens, so if you’ve got a bag of spinach you need to use up, add in a handful of the leafy greens!
Because of its neutral sweet flavors, this banana smoothie is the perfect base to truly experiment with. Switch it up every time you make it so you never get bored!
