Ingredients
- 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour, divided
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1 large egg
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- kosher salt
- Freshly ground black pepper
- 4 hot dogs, sliced into 1" pieces
- 2 cups vegetable oil
- Ketchup, for serving
- Mustard, for serving
Directions
- Step 1In a large bowl, combine 1 cup flour, milk, cornmeal, sugar, melted butter, egg and baking powder. Stir until smooth and season with salt and pepper.
- Step 2Roll hot dogs in remaining flour and then into the cornbread mixture.
- Step 3In a pot or skillet with high sides, add enough oil to be 2” deep. Heat to 350° and fry bites until they are golden on the outside and cooked on the inside, about 4 minutes. Place on a paper towel to drain.
- Step 4Serve with ketchup and mustard if desired.
