Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground turkey

  • ¼ cup minced sweet onion

  • 1 (4 ounce) can mild chopped green chilies

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro

  • 1 large clove garlic, minced

  • 1 fresh jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced

  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin

  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano

  • teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • salt and ground black pepper to taste

  • 4 slices Monterey Jack cheese

Directions

  1. Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat and lightly oil the grate.

  2. Combine turkey, onion, chilies, cilantro, garlic, jalapeno pepper, cumin, oregano, cinnamon, salt, and pepper in a large bowl; gently mix until combined. Form into four 1/4-pound burgers.

  3. Cook on the preheated grill until cooked through, about 6 minutes per side. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center of the burgers should read at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C).

  4. Remove from the heat, add Monterey Jack cheese slices, and tent with aluminum foil until cheese is melted, 2 to 3 minutes.
