Frank's spicy beef, onion, and beer chili is a favorite from my trip to Alabama. It's been such a hit that I had to share the recipe. Customize the heat level by adjusting the jalapeños and spices to your liking.

Ingredients

Original recipe (1X) yields 8 servings

  • 2 pounds ground beef chuck

  • 2 large white onions, chopped

  • 2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce

  • 2 (15 ounce) cans spicy chili beans

  • 2 (14.5 ounce) cans diced tomatoes with juice

  • 1 (12 fluid ounce) can beer

  • cup chili powder

  • ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce

  • 4 fresh jalapeño peppers, seeded and chopped

  • 3 tablespoons hot pepper sauce (such as Tabasco), or to taste

  • 3 tablespoons red pepper flakes, or to taste (Optional)

Directions

  1. Crumble ground chuck into a skillet over medium heat; cook and stir until evenly browned. Drain. Transfer beef to a large soup pot. Add onions, tomato sauce, chili beans, diced tomato with juice, beer, chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, jalapeños, hot pepper sauce, and red pepper flakes.

  2. Cover the pot; simmer over low heat for 2 hours. Cool completely. Refrigerate for two days. It gets much better with time. Reheat to serve.
