1. 1 lb. split peas (about 2 c.) -
2. 1 large onion, diced -
3. 2 medium carrots, peeled and chopped -
4. 2 stalks celery, chopped -
5. 3 cloves garlic, minced -
6. 3 sprigs thyme -
7. 1 tsp. ground ginger  -
8. 1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes -
9. 6 c. low-sodium chicken broth -
10. 1 ham bone (optional) -
11. Kosher salt -
12. Freshly ground black pepper -
13. Freshly shaved Parmesan, for serving -

How to cook deliciously - Slow-Cooker Split Pea Soup

1. Stage

In a slow cooker combine split peas, onion, carrots, celery, garlic, thyme, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Pour broth over and add ham bone, if using. Season with salt and pepper. 

2. Stage

Cook on high for 4 to 5 hours or low for 6 to 8, until peas are completely soft. 

3. Stage

Remove ham bone from slow cooker and shred any remaining meat. Add meat back to slow cooker.

4. Stage

Top with Parmesan before serving.
