1. Stage

Thoroughly wash potato and pat completely dry. Pierce 3 to 4 times with a fork.

Place potato on a heatproof plate and microwave, turning halfway through, until fork-tender, about 7 minutes. If your potato isn’t fork-tender, continue to microwave in 1-minute increments. Let sit 2 minutes.

3. Stage

Split potato down the middle, being careful of steam; season with salt and pepper. Top with butter.
