3. Salt - 1 ½ tablespoons
4. Shredded Cheddar cheese - 1 cup
5. All-purpose flour - 1 cup
6. Cornmeal - ½ cup
7. Egg, lightly beaten - 1
8. Ground black pepper to taste - 1
9. Vegetable oil, or as needed - 1 tablespoon

1. Stage

Place squash and onion in a colander; sprinkle with salt and drain until no longer moist, about 30 minutes.
