1. 12 slices day-old French bread baguette (3/4 inch thick) -
2. 6 large eggs, lightly beaten -
3. 2-3/4 cups 2% milk -
4. 2/3 cup sugar, divided -
5. 1 tablespoon vanilla extract -
6. 4 medium apples, peeled and thinly sliced -
7. 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon -
8. 3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg -
9. 1 tablespoon butter -
10. Optional: Whipped cream and maple syrup -

How to cook deliciously - Apple-Cinnamon Baked French Toast

1. Stage

Arrange 6 slices bread in a greased 13x9-in. baking dish. Combine eggs, milk, 1/3 cup sugar and vanilla; pour half over bread. Top with apples. Combine cinnamon, nutmeg and remaining 1/3 cup sugar; sprinkle over apples. Top with remaining 6 bread slices; pour remaining egg mixture over bread. Dot with butter. Cover and refrigerate 8 hours or overnight.

2. Stage

Remove from refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Preheat oven to 350°. Bake, uncovered, until a knife inserted in center comes out clean, 45-50 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes before serving. If desired, serve with whipped cream and syrup.
