Ingredients for - Refried Beans Without the Refry

1. Dry pinto beans, rinsed - 3 cups
2. Onion, peeled and halved - 1
3. Fresh jalapeno pepper, seeded and chopped - ½
4. Minced garlic - 2 tablespoons
5. Salt - 5 teaspoons
6. Fresh ground black pepper - 1 ¾ teaspoons
7. Ground cumin, optional - ⅛ teaspoon
8. Water - 9 cups

How to cook deliciously - Refried Beans Without the Refry

1. Stage

Place beans, onion, jalapeño, garlic, salt, pepper, and cumin into a slow cooker. Pour in water; stir to combine.

2. Stage

Cook on High until beans are very tender, about 8 hours; add more water as needed.

3. Stage

Strain beans and reserve cooking liquid. Transfer beans to a large, shallow bowl. Use a potato masher to mash beans, adding reserved cooking liquid as needed to reach desired consistency.
