1. Olive oil - ½ cup
2. Onion, minced - 1 large
3. Garlic, minced - 3 cloves
4. Crushed diced tomatoes - 2 (32 ounce) cans
5. Water - 4 cups
6. Tomato paste - 1 (16 ounce) can
7. Chopped fresh basil - ¼ cup
8. Baking soda - 1 teaspoon
9. White sugar - 1 teaspoon
10. Salt and ground black pepper to taste - 1 teaspoon

How to cook deliciously - Homemade Italian Red Sauce

1. Stage

Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Sauté onion and garlic in hot oil until onion is translucent, 5 to 7 minutes.

Reduce the heat to medium-low. Stir in tomatoes, water, tomato paste, basil, baking soda, sugar, salt, and pepper; bring to a simmer. Cook at a simmer until sauce is thickened, about 2 hours.
