1. Sauerkraut, drained and rinsed - 1 quart
2. Water - 1 ½ cups
3. Diced carrot - ¾ cup
4. Brown sugar - ¾ cup
5. Chopped apple - ⅔ cup
6. Sweet onion, minced - ½
7. Caraway seeds - 1 teaspoon
8. Salt and ground black pepper to taste - 1 teaspoon
9. Fully cooked kielbasa, cut into 1-inch pieces (Optional) - 1 pound

1. Stage

Place sauerkraut, water, carrot, brown sugar, apple, sweet onion, caraway seeds, salt, and black pepper in a slow cooker. Cook on Low for about 7 hours; add kielbasa. Cook for one more hour.
