1. 1 pound lean ground turkey -
2. 1 large red onion, chopped -
3. 1 large green pepper, chopped -
4. 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce -
5. 1/2 cup barbecue sauce -
6. 1 teaspoon dried oregano -
7. 1 teaspoon ground cumin -
8. 1 teaspoon chili powder -
9. 1/4 teaspoon salt -
10. 8 hamburger buns, split -

1. Stage

In a large skillet, cook the turkey, onion and pepper over medium heat for six to eight minutes, or until the turkey is no longer pink and the vegetables are tender, breaking up the turkey into crumbles as it cooks. Editor’s Tip: Use a potato masher or fork to break the ground turkey into fine crumbles for an even texture.

2. Stage

Stir in the tomato sauce, barbecue sauce, oregano, cumin, chili powder and salt. Bring the sauce to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to blend, stirring occasionally. Serve the sloppy joes on toasted buns.
