1. All-purpose flour 2 cups
2. Cream of tartar 1 teaspoon
3. Baking soda ½ teaspoon
4. Salt 1 pinch
5. Margarine ¼ cup
6. White sugar ⅛ cup
7. Milk, or as needed ½ cup
8. Milk 2 tablespoons

How to cook deliciously - Basic British Scones

1 . Stage

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2 . Stage

Sift flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt into a bowl.

3 . Stage

Rub in margarine until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Stir in sugar and enough milk to mix to a soft dough.

4 . Stage

Turn onto a floured surface, knead lightly and roll out to a 3/4-inch thickness. Cut into 2-inch rounds and place on the prepared baking sheet. Brush with milk to glaze.

5 . Stage

Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, then cool on a wire rack.
