1. Dry black beans - 1 pound
2. Chicken broth - 4 cups
3. Diced tomatoes in juice - 1 (14 ounce) can
4. Carrots, peeled and finely chopped - 2
5. Onion, chopped - 1 large
6. Red bell pepper, chopped - 1
7. Minced garlic, or more to taste - 2 teaspoons
8. Ground cumin - 2 teaspoons
9. Salt - 2 teaspoons
10. Chili powder - 2 teaspoons
11. Chopped jalapeno pepper, or more to taste (Optional) - 1 teaspoon
12. Ground black pepper, or more to taste - 1 teaspoon
13. Canned corn, drained - 1 cup
14. Brown sugar - ¼ cup

How to cook deliciously - Grandma Sony's Slow Cooker Black Beans

1. Stage

Sort black beans and place into a large container. Cover with several inches of cool water; let soak, 8 hours to overnight. Rinse and drain.

2. Stage

Combine black beans, chicken broth, tomatoes, carrots, onion, red bell pepper, garlic, cumin, salt, chili powder, jalapeno, and black pepper in a slow cooker.

3. Stage

Cover and cook on High until mixture has reduced and beans are tender, about 8 hours. Stir in corn and brown sugar 1 hour before serving.
