1. Dried black-eyed peas 1 pound
2. Vegetable oil 1 tablespoon
3. Onion, chopped 1 medium
4. Garlic, minced 5 cloves
5. Smoked ham hocks 1 pound
6. Water 6 cups
7. Seasoned salt 1 tablespoon
8. Onion Powder 1 teaspoon
9. Ground cumin 1 teaspoon
10. Freshly ground black pepper 1 teaspoon
11. Crushed red pepper ¼ teaspoon
12. Bay leaves 3

How to cook deliciously - Southern-Style Black-Eyed Peas

1 . Stage

Soak black-eyed peas in a bowl of water for at least 2 hours, or overnight.

Heat oil in a large, heavy saucepan over medium heat. Sauté onion and garlic in hot oil until onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
