Ingredients for - Beet balls with herring Icelandic style
How to cook deliciously - Beet balls with herring Icelandic style
1. Stage
If we boil the vegetables in advance, we make the balls very quickly! Herring should also be made overnight or just put fillets of regular salted herring in the balls or buy ready-made herring Icelandic herring. I do, it is not difficult and very tasty. So: we boil the vegetables "in jacket", hard-boiled eggs. For salted herring, we boil water of 300 ml, put spices, sugar, salt, vinegar and cook for 5 minutes. Cover and cool. Herring cut into fillet slices and pour the cooled broth, put it in a jar, cover and put in the refrigerator overnight.
2. Stage
Vegetables: beets, carrots, potatoes, leeks (regular onions can be), garlic cut into pieces and put in a blender. We add soy sauce (I took sweet sauce), mayonnaise, ground black pepper and beat everything into a smooth mass. I do not salt, I have enough soy sauce and there will be more herring inside.
3. Stage
We get a mass like this. There may be more balls from this amount of products. It all depends on how big you are going to make the balls and how big a piece of herring you will put inside.
4. Stage
Shape the balls this way. Grate the egg on a medium grater.
5. Stage
Roll each ball in the egg.
6. Stage
Place on a platter to serve. You can arrange the balls to your liking. I suggest paper muffin tins-very handy for the buffet table.
7. Stage
Decorate as you wish. I made the balls look like Christmas tree balls by placing a cut olive with a sprig of dill inserted on top. In this way, I formed a "pendant" for the ball. I put dill sprigs, red pepper in the form of balls on a sprig and a cucumber tree, and sprinkled some chopped green onions on the dish.
