1. Fresh strawberries - 3 pints
2. White sugar - ½ cup
3. All-purpose flour - 2 ¼ cups
4. Baking powder - 4 teaspoons
5. White sugar - 2 tablespoons
6. Salt - ¼ teaspoon
7. Shortening - ⅓ cup
8. Egg - 1
9. Milk - ⅔ cup
10. Whipped heavy cream - 2 cups

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Grease and flour one 8-inch round cake pan. Dotdash Meredith Food Studios

In a medium bowl combine the flour, baking powder, 2 tablespoons white sugar and the salt. With a pastry blender cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well in the center and add the beaten egg and milk. Dotdash Meredith Food Studios
