1. Unsalted butter - ½ cup
2. Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
3. Sliced onions - 4 cups
4. Beef broth - 5 cups
5. Dry sherry - 2 tablespoons
6. Dried thyme - 1 teaspoon
7. Salt and pepper to taste - 1 pinch
8. French bread - 4 slices
9. Provolone cheese - 4 slices
10. Swiss cheese, diced - 2 slices
11. Grated Parmesan cheese - ¼ cup
