1. Dry black-eyed peas 1 pound
2. Vegetable broth 2 (32 fluid ounce) containers
3. Cubed ham 2 cups
4. Chopped carrots 1 cup
5. Chopped celery 1 cup
6. Ham bone 1
7. Onion, diced 1 medium
8. Worcestershire sauce 2 tablespoons
9. Salt and ground black pepper to taste 2 tablespoons
10. Collard greens - rinsed, trimmed and chopped 1 pound

How to cook deliciously - Southern New Year's Day Soup in the Slow Cooker

1 . Stage

Sort and rinse peas then place into a slow cooker and cover with 8 to 10 cups of cool water. Let soak, 8 hours to overnight.

2 . Stage

Drain water from peas and add broth, ham, carrots, celery, ham bone, onion, Worcestershire, salt, and pepper.

3 . Stage

Cover and cook on High for 5 hours. Stir in collard greens and cook until tender, about 30 minutes more.
