1. Unsalted butter ½ cup
2. Sliced onion 1 cup
3. Garlic, minced 5 large cloves
4. Tightly packed sorrel leaves, stems and veins removed 12 cups
5. Chicken stock 4 cups
6. Water 2 cups
7. Potatoes, peeled and diced 3
8. Carrot, peeled and cut into matchsticks 1 large
9. Chopped fresh parsley 1 cup
10. Fresh dill, chopped, or to taste 3 sprigs
11. Lemon juice 1 tablespoon
12. Freshly ground black pepper 1 teaspoon
13. Ground cayenne pepper, or more to taste ¼ teaspoon

How to cook deliciously - Baba's Best Sorrel Soup

1 . Stage

Melt butter in a large Dutch oven over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; cook and stir until soft, about 5 minutes. Add sorrel in batches, stirring well until wilted, 5 to 8 minutes in all.

2 . Stage

Pour chicken stock and water into the Dutch oven. Stir in potatoes, carrot, parsley, dill, lemon juice, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Simmer soup until flavors combine, about 1 hour.

3 . Stage

Puree soup with an immersion blender until mostly smooth before serving.
