1. Unsalted butter - ½ cup
2. Sliced onion - 1 cup
3. Garlic, minced - 5 large cloves
4. Tightly packed sorrel leaves, stems and veins removed - 12 cups
5. Chicken stock - 4 cups
6. Water - 2 cups
7. Potatoes, peeled and diced - 3
8. Carrot, peeled and cut into matchsticks - 1 large
9. Chopped fresh parsley - 1 cup
10. Fresh dill, chopped, or to taste - 3 sprigs
11. Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
12. Freshly ground black pepper - 1 teaspoon
13. Ground cayenne pepper, or more to taste - ¼ teaspoon

How to cook deliciously - Baba's Best Sorrel Soup

1. Stage

Melt butter in a large Dutch oven over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; cook and stir until soft, about 5 minutes. Add sorrel in batches, stirring well until wilted, 5 to 8 minutes in all.

2. Stage

Pour chicken stock and water into the Dutch oven. Stir in potatoes, carrot, parsley, dill, lemon juice, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Simmer soup until flavors combine, about 1 hour.

Puree soup with an immersion blender until mostly smooth before serving.
