3. Frozen southern-style hash brown potatoes (such as Ore Ida®) - ⅓ (20 ounce) package
4. Onion, chopped - 1
5. Carrots, peeled and diced - 3
6. Celery, diced - 3 ribs
7. Garlic, minced - 2 cloves
8. Ground black pepper - ⅛ teaspoon
9. Red pepper flakes, or more to taste (Optional) - 1 pinch
10. Chicken broth - 8 cups
