4. Shortening - 2 tablespoons
5. Egg - 1
6. Vanilla extract - ½ teaspoon
7. Sifted all-purpose flour - 2 cups
8. Baking soda - ½ teaspoon
9. Salt - ¼ teaspoon
10. Oil for deep frying - 1 quart
11. Confectioners' sugar for dusting - ½ cup

Stir together milk and vinegar; let stand for a few minutes until thick.
