1. Sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into small pieces - 3 large
2. Chicken broth - 6 cups
3. Orange-flavored liqueur (such as Cointreau®) - 1 tablespoon
4. Fat-free half-and-half - ½ cup
5. Ground nutmeg - ¾ teaspoon
6. Freshly grated ginger - ½ teaspoon
7. Ground cinnamon - ½ teaspoon
8. Cayenne pepper (Optional) - ¼ teaspoon
9. Salt and ground black pepper to taste - ¼ teaspoon
10. Chopped pecans - ¼ cup

1. Stage

Put sweet potatoes into a large pot. Pour chicken broth over the sweet potatoes; bring to a boil, stir orange liqueur into the boiling broth, and cook until the potatoes are tender, about 25 minutes.

Puree the sweet potatoes with the broth using an immersion blender until smooth.
