Ingredients for - Stove Top Pot Roast

1. Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
2. Beef chuck roast - 1 (3 pound)
3. Water, or as needed - 4 cups
4. Celery, chopped - 4 stalks
5. Garlic, crushed - 4 cloves
6. Red onion, chopped - 1
7. Dried basil - 1 tablespoon
8. Salt and pepper to taste - 1 tablespoon
9. Turnips, peeled and cut into chunks - 6
10. Red potatoes, quartered - 6 medium
11. Carrots, peeled and cut into chunks - 6

How to cook deliciously - Stove Top Pot Roast

1. Stage

Heat oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat; add roast and quickly brown on all sides. Dotdash Meredith Food Studios

Add enough water to the pot to cover roast; add celery, garlic, onion, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to low and simmer for 2 hours and 15 minutes, adding additional water if needed to keep the roast covered. Dotdash Meredith Food Studios
