1. Cider vinegar - 4 cups
2. Brown sugar - 1 cup
3. Ketchup - 1 ⅓ cups
4. Butter - ¼ cup
5. Hot pepper sauce (e.g. Tabasco™) - 2 tablespoons
6. Fresh lemon juice - 2 tablespoons
7. Worcestershire sauce - 2 tablespoons
8. Crushed red pepper flakes - 2 teaspoons
9. Mustard powder - 2 teaspoons
10. Salt - 1 teaspoon
11. Fresh ground black pepper - 1 teaspoon

How to cook deliciously - Western North Carolina Vinegar Barbeque Sauce

1. Stage

Place vinegar, sugar, ketchup, butter, hot pepper sauce, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, red pepper flakes, mustard powder, salt, and pepper into a saucepan. Bring to a simmer over high heat, then reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 30 minutes. Remove from the stove and pour into a heat-proof bowl. Cover and refrigerate sauce for 2 days.

2. Stage

Strain sauce through a mesh sieve to remove red pepper flakes. Store sauce in the refrigerator. Bring to room temperature before serving.
