3. Fresh ginger, peeled and chopped - 1 (1 inch) piece
4. Garlic, chopped, or more to taste - 4 cloves
5. Green chile pepper, seeded and chopped (Optional) - 1
6. Olive oil - 3 tablespoons
7. Fresh bay leaves - 2
8. Chili powder - 1 teaspoon
9. Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
10. Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
11. Turmeric powder - ½ teaspoon
12. Salt to taste - 1 pinch
13. Water as needed - 1 pinch
14. Chickpeas - 1 (15 ounce) can
15. Fresh cilantro leaves, for garnish, or more to taste - 1 teaspoon

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry bay leaves in hot oil until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Pour the paste into the skillet and cook until the oil begins to separate from the mixture and is golden brown in color, 2 to 3 minutes.
