2. Fresh bread crumbs - 1 cup
3. Dried parsley - 1 tablespoon
4. Grated Parmesan cheese - 1 tablespoon
5. Ground black pepper - ¼ teaspoon
6. Garlic powder - ⅛ teaspoon
7. Egg, beaten - 1
8. Chopped onion - ¾ cup
9. Garlic, minced - 5 cloves
10. Olive oil - ¼ cup
11. Whole peeled tomatoes - 2 (28 ounce) cans
12. Salt - 2 teaspoons
13. White sugar - 1 teaspoon
14. Bay leaf - 1
15. Tomato paste - 1 (6 ounce) can
16. Dried basil - ¾ teaspoon
17. Ground black pepper - ½ teaspoon

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, parsley, Parmesan, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, garlic powder and beaten egg. Mix well and form into 12 balls. Store, covered, in refrigerator until needed. Dotdash Meredith Food Studios

In a large saucepan over medium heat, saute onion and garlic in olive oil until onion is translucent.
