How to cook deliciously - Maple-Glazed Ham

1. Stage

Preheat the oven to 300°F. Place the ham on a rack in a shallow roasting pan. Cover and bake until a thermometer reads 130°, 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours. Editor’s Tip: For the best results, let the ham sit on the counter, covered, for at least 30 minutes (or as long as two hours). Bringing the ham to room temperature helps it cook more evenly, ensuring it cooks up juicy and moist.

2. Stage

Meanwhile, in a large saucepan, stir together the brown sugar, maple syrup, prepared mustard, ground cinnamon and nutmeg. Bring the mixture to a boil. Cook and stir until slightly thickened, two to three minutes. Editor's Tip: This recipe makes enough to cover a 7- to 9-pound ham. For a larger ham, you can double the glaze. (Use up any leftover glaze on our best-ever pancakes!)

3. Stage

Remove the ham from the oven. Pour the glaze over the ham. Bake, uncovered, until a thermometer reads 140°, 15 to 30 minutes longer. Editor’s Tip: Before you carve the ham, let the ham rest for 10 to 20 minutes. Using a sharp knife, cut around the bone. Then slice through the natural breaks (look for the seams or fat lines in the ham). Transfer the slices to a serving platter.
