8. Minced fresh ginger - ½ teaspoon
9. Ground black pepper - ½ teaspoon
10. Ground cumin - ½ teaspoon
11. Chili powder - ½ teaspoon
12. Paprika - ½ teaspoon
13. Vegetable broth - 4 cups

Melt butter in a large, heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat. Add sweet potatoes, carrots, apple, and onion; cook and stir until onion is translucent, about 10 minutes.
