1. All-purpose flour 4 cups
2. White sugar 2 cups
3. Unsweetened cocoa powder ¼ cup
4. Cornstarch 2 tablespoons
5. Baking soda 2 teaspoons
6. Salt 1 teaspoon
7. Ground cinnamon 2 teaspoons
8. Ground cloves 2 teaspoons
9. Unsweetened applesauce 3 cups
10. Vegetable oil ¾ cup
11. Raisins 1 cup
12. Chopped pitted dates 1 cup
13. Candied mixed fruit 1 pound
14. Chopped walnuts 2 cups
15. Walnut halves (Optional) ½ cup
16. Halved candied cherries (Optional) 1 cup

How to cook deliciously - Grandma Leach's Fruitcake

1 . Stage

Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Grease a 9 inch tube pan and one 9x5 inch loaf pan.

2 . Stage

Sift the flour, sugar, cocoa, cornstarch, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and cloves into a large bowl. Stir in the applesauce and oil, then mix in the raisins, dates, mixed fruit and 2 cups of walnuts. Pour into the prepared pans. Pans should be about 3/4 full if using mini pans, or an assortment.

3 . Stage

Bake for 1 hour in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the crown of the cake comes out clean.

4 . Stage

Cool cake and decorate with walnut halves and candied cherry halves.
