1. 1 large onion, chopped -
2. 2 tablespoons butter -
3. 10 cups water -
4. 6 cups chopped cabbage -
5. 4 cups diced peeled potatoes -
6. 1 large carrot, peeled, halved and sliced -
7. 3 tablespoons chicken bouillon granules -
8. 1/2 teaspoon coarsely ground pepper -
9. 1/2 teaspoon dried minced garlic -
10. 4 cups cubed fully cooked ham -

How to cook deliciously - Ham and Cabbage Soup

1. Stage

In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, saute the onion in butter until tender.

2. Stage

Add the water, cabbage, potatoes, carrot, chicken bouillon granules, pepper and garlic to the saucepan. Cover the pan, and simmer for 20 to 25 minutes, until potatoes are tender. Editor's Tip: If you have a leftover ham bone, add it to the pan in this step. It will add savory flavor to the soup.

3. Stage

Stir in the cubed ham, and heat through.
